Final Project – PLN 5
All participants will be required to submit a final project that should reflect the theory and practice of all PLN seminars. Participants should schedule outside of class time to collaborate with colleagues on their projects. The project may be completed as pairs, as a group or individually. The project should be a significant unit of literacy-based instruction that reflects the following characteristics:
• The project is informed by the theory of Penn Literacy (Four Lenses of Learning/Five Critical Experiences)
• The unit and the lessons are standards-based and developed according to the BDA conceptual framework (before reading activities, during reading activities, and after reading activities)
• The lessons contain literacy-rich strategies and activities that may include the following: Do Nows, QAR activities, Document Review processes, Story Impressions, jigsaw activities, Literature Circles, many other potential PLN strategies.
• Should represent a full “unit” of a minimum of 10 lessons
• Must be anchored in the 4 lenses (all lenses should be identified in each lesson)
• Should use the EME for lesson design and include some of our PLN strategies
• Begin with a 1-2 page introduction/philosophy
• Should be written so that you (or someone else) can use it
• Should not include commercial materials, only what you generate
• Should end with some anchor, such as a project, test, writing that will allow the students to demonstrate their understanding
Previously written units are available for review.
